FOOT DRIVE TEST

Boy, what a day.  With help from fellow builders Keith and Carolyn we assembled my prototype Big Lots Foot Drive Units, filled the tires/tubes with 'slime' and proceeded to apply power.  Boy he took off like he was being chased by Jawa's!  What a feeling when you first drive your R2.  All the sweat and parts gathering have finally started to pay off. R2 still needs a lot of work, skins, paint and more detail parts, but he IS operational!

I ground more spacers than I can remember.  It was about 2:00 AM and for some reason they kept coming up short!  R2's Foot Drives are already installed.  After running him though, I realized that I had put the second tire on the WRONG SIDE of the Drive Assembly.  Oh well, should have had more coffee!

Keith helping out by getting the Big Lot's hubs and tires assembled.  Thanks Keith!

Carolyn then put in 'slime' so the darn tires/tubes would hold air.  We tested each one by putting it in a bucket of water.

OK, time to mount the final Drive Assemblies!

Power was applied at 3:00 AM and I grabbed the Futaba radio and off he went!  Whoo-Hoo!

It's a great feeling, just had to pose with him!  Man... wont forget this night!
