MY R2-D2 PROJECT
BUILDING AN ASTROMECH!

R2 "FINISHED" AT CIV
What R2 currently looks like.  Picture taken at CIV in LA 2007.
I weathered him in the motel room.
Don Bies said good job, but weathering "needed some drips".  Thanks uncle Don!

R2 at MegaCon, Orlando Florida, February 2007
Front skins glued and some details mounted.  First time out at a con, had a great time running him around for the fans.
Funny, even though he was not completed, I got a lot of fans wanting to take pictures anyway.
Special thanks to Jim Quinlan for putting this meet together.

R2 IS "BORN"
R2-D2 on January 11th 2007 after my first R/C controlled test drive.  This was about 3:00 AM!  He's naked, but R2 worked great!  I'm using a Futaba 9CAP radio and a 8 channel receiver.
You will never forget the first time you take the controls and watch him take off!
Special thanks to fellow Florida builders Keith and Carolyn for helping out into the early morning hours, could not have done it without you!
Foot drives/mounts were my own design and used 100 watt scooter motors and Big Lots 6" rubber tires.  Front ball casters have now been removed and feet have been fixed into 3 leg mode.

The Southern Group FORUM as of 09/03/07 is SHUT DOWN for now.  Too many outsiders trying to get in and got spammed.
We will just use our Southern Builders Group mailing list for meeting announcements, etc.

I finally got hooked into building my own "fully" operational R2-D2 droid.  This has been a dream of mine since I saw the first Star Wars move back in 1977, which by the way is officially called "A New Hope" or "ANH" which is episode IV.   I discovered the R2 builders group on the internet back in March of 2005 and the rest is, well... history.  Have been collecting parts for over a 2 years and has been a long and drawn out progress, but well worth the effort!.  However, this will be my 'final' project as R2 will never be actually completed, constantly upgrading and fixing :)

Click on one of the links below to look at my R2-D2's building progress, some how-to's, parts collection, some local R2 Builders meetings photo's, Meeting Kenny Baker at the FX show, and Star Wars Weekends and now CIV!!!  Also just added (08/20/07) my ANH lightsaber build link using real Graflex Flash Housings.
